Stop Sexual Assault in Schools (SSAIS) is the leading national nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to preventing and addressing sexual harassment and gender-based harm in K–12 schools. Founded in 2015 by parent-educators whose family experienced the consequences of sexual assault and institutional failure, SSAIS brings both lived experience and subject-matter expertise to its work. SSAIS develops free toolkits, webinars, training materials, videos, and other educational resources that help students, families, educators, and school leaders understand their rights and responsibilities and create safer, more equitable learning environments. The organization also provides innovative resources and direct assistance and referrals to schools, families, and community organizations at no cost.
SSAIS's expertise is regularly sought by national and local media, reflecting its leadership in advancing evidence-informed approaches to prevention, policy, and student safety. SSAIS is also a member of several national coalitions and collaborates with organizations across the country.
Together with a collaborative network of advisors, educators, researchers, advocates, and partner organizations, SSAIS works to strengthen school policies and practices while advancing effective prevention and response strategies nationwide. Since its founding, SSAIS has used a multipronged approach that engages schools, families, community organizations, policymakers, and the media to reduce gender-based harm and advance students’ right to an education free from gender-based discrimination.
