The Story of Movies is a FREE interdisciplinary program that teaches students how to read a movie. The lessons and screening activities challenge students to interpret cinematic devices and to understand the significance of a movie’s historical and cultural context. Teachers can download lesson plans, PowerPoint slides, film clips, reading selections, and assessments to create meaningful film study lessons designed to strengthen critical-thinking skills.
The Story of Movies is a program of The Film Foundation. Created in 1990 by Martin Scorsese, The Film Foundation is dedicated to protecting and preserving motion picture history. By working in partnership with archives and studios, the foundation has helped to restore over 900 films. These are made accessible to the public through programming at festivals, museums, and educational institutions around the world. In addition, the foundation’s World Cinema Project has restored 46 films from 27 different countries, representing the rich diversity of global cinema.
