About This Webinar

Join The American Federation of Teachers and Facing History and Ourselves for a conversation with former United Nations Ambassador Samantha Power about educating young people to be upstanders for a more humane and just world.

What can one person do? On the eve of Human Rights Day (Dec. 10), join the American Federation of Teachers and Facing History and Ourselves for a conversation with former UN Ambassador Samantha Power about educating young people to be upstanders for a more humane and just world. Ambassador Power’s new best-selling memoir, The Education of an Idealist, charts her compelling journey—from immigrant, to war correspondent, to Pulitzer Prize-winning author, activist and foreign policy critic, to cabinet official and Ambassador to the United Nations in the Obama administration. Her story illuminates the complexity, and necessity, to learning to make a difference in today’s world.

Professional Credit

Available for one-hour of PD credit. A certificate of completion will be available for download at the end of your session that you can submit for your school's or district's approval.

This webinar provided insight as well as a reflection on how students can become engaged in understanding more about global politics. Powers insight and considerations both from her past experiences as a student and diplomatic career reveal the significance of students taking action. All of the resources and materials by Facing History are effective and engaging for a variety of levels.
