How can educators address grief in the classroom and the emotional impact of COVID-19 on students? This workshop will address our comfort level for supporting grief, challenges we may face and provide helpful resources and tools to address grief. There is a need for social and emotional support in our public schools because of COVID-19.
In a survey of educators provided by the Hart Research Associates of 675 AFT members:
- 26% report that a member of their school community (including direct family members of students, teachers or staff) had died from the coronavirus.
- 95% agree that social and emotional support for students has never been more important than it is now.
- Three in four educators (75%) report that COVID-19 has opened their eyes to the immense impact of grief and loss
- 93% believe that the traumatic effects of the coronavirus on students will be felt long-term.
