How can school and district leaders best support their diverse populations of immigrant students in today’s climate? Learn how a pair of award-winning leaders, including a principal and a district ELL leader, are succeeding in this challenge through robust social-emotional support, creative community engagement, and cohesive academic approaches that build upon student strengths, gifts, and talents. Topics covered will include: answering questions and concerns from immigrant families; getting to know families and their neighborhoods; providing professional development for staff on topics such as trauma and anxiety; creating and drawing upon local partnerships; building community support teams across the district; and creating a welcoming environment for all families and staff members. Participants will also learn about additional resources on this topic offered by the nation's leading website for serving ELLs and immigrant students, Colorín Colorado.
