Combating Antisemitism and Hate with Knowledge
This collection of lesson plans, activities and resources for K-12 educators and parents can help address hate, racism and anti-semitism and provide the background knowledge students need. Senseless, violent acts of biogtry happen way too often in the United States, including the late 2019 shooting at a kosher market New Jersey and the tragic shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh in 2018.
In its annual Discussing the History of Antisemitism: Classroom Strategies for Awareness, the Anti-Defamation League found that 2017 was a record year of anti-semitic incidents in the United States, rising 57 percent. 2017 was "the largest single-year increase on record and the second highest number reported since ADL started tracking such data in 1979."
Lesson Plans and Resources for Antisemitism Awareness
We know that your students will have questions about these incidents, and that you will be looking for resouces to support and discuss recent tragedies. This collection has resources on the rise of anti-semitism and addressing racism, with additional collections on helping children cope with traumatic events, gun violence, mental health and why remembering and teaching about the Holocaust -- and recognized days like International Day Against Fascism and Antisemitism - is imperative.
