Freedom to Teach

Our students come to us on varying levels but they are given the same assessments. Many of our administrators are data driven and are sole focused on the assessments and not in the welfare of the children we serve.

Everyone learns in a different way some by visual, some by hearing and some learn by doing. Trying to teach everyone the same way will not always work. I feel lessons should be about something the students can relate to. This keeps the student interested in the lesson longer. It's not only about testing but life long lessons that will help the students grasp things easier.

Teachers that are self empowered will implement these liberties into the curriculum to enhance and engage life long learners that will make positive future changes in their communities. The freedom to teach will be utilized daily to catapult all students to reach their academic potential and work towards a safe and better tomorrow.

I can use techniques to teach my students, and choose the topics that are of most interest to them, without worry that I will be punished if they are poor test-takers. Freedom to teach means I am respected as an expert and a professional who will do what is right and do my job to the absolute best of my ability.

Currently, educators spend so much of their class time preparing for testing that they fail to prepare students for post-secondary life. Having the freedom to teach would ensure that we, as educators, prepare our students to become at least one of three Es: enrolled (in college or technical/trade-oriented programs) , enlisted (in a branch of our military) or employed, and after receiving adequate preparation, the students (and teachers) should feel EMPOWERED.
