About This Lesson

Elementary Mathematics Specialist, Karyn Hodgens, describes a fun project that was designed as a community project where all participants help to create a project. Participants made individual honeycomb cells which they later connected together forming a large honeycomb. Karyn describes the steps participants follow in creating their cells and offers tips along the way. In addition, she discusses the math involved such as measuring, division, and fractions and reviews geometric vocabulary. The connections between math and nature become apparent as the project unfolds.
