About This Lesson

People use different styles when they communicate. They use words (written and spoken) to express feelings, thoughts or experiences, and body language (postures and facial expressions) to send messages. Improper communication may lead to a conflict. Conflict can harm any relationship and consequently lead to negative impact on the person’s health if not resolved at earlier stages. There are two main strategies to resolve conflict: Negotiation and mediation. In negotiation, people who are involved in a conflict talk directly to each other to resolve the conflict. Sometimes it involves the two sides in a conflict to compromise to reach a solution that satisfies all. Mediation, on the other hand, another person is involved to help reaching a solution that is acceptable to both sides in a conflict.
