About This Lesson

Parents have always been viewed as the bedrock to their children’s success. While parents may seem to vary in their level of involvement, the current circumstances have brought them front and center in the education of their children in a way that federal, state and local policies could not. Educators and parents are now more than ever part of a shared teaching and learning community. There is a new sense of partnership for children’s academic success with the understanding that partnerships alone do not guarantee success—but will if they ignite students’ motivation to produce their own success.

The American Federation of Teachers has compiled these helpful resources for educators who are looking for strategies to enlist parents’ support to ensure children’s academic success during COVID-19 school closures.
