About This Lesson

Democracy Class is Rock the Vote’s free, nonpartisan civic education curriculum that equips high school students with the knowledge and skills they need to participate in democracy.

Through interactive, one-period lessons, students are given the tools and knowledge they need to become voters, recognize the power that comes with civic participation, and navigate today’s complex information landscape.

Lesson 1: The History of Voting examines the evolution of voting rights in the United States while highlighting historical resistance to the expansion of these rights and the ongoing issue of voter suppression.
