About This Lesson

How do girls and boys see themselves? How do they think they’re seen by others? What do gender stereotypes teach kids about who they’re supposed to be? This activity requires one teacher/adult facilitator per small group, preferably matched by gender (i.e. a female facilitator for the female group and a male facilitator for the male group). Aligned to Common Core State Standards: SL.6.1 , SL.7.1 , SL.8.1

The gender dialogue groups provide student an opportunity to discuss the stereotypes. It would be helpful to have more examples of stereotypes for each grade and dialogue starters and graphic organizers.
