This lesson will teach the purpose of pulleys and how to make your own pulley at home, using common household items. A pulley changes the direction of a force, which makes lifting weight easier. The pulley is one of six simple machines.Simple machines are ancient inventions that have no or few moving parts. Work that is difficult or sometimes even impossible, is made easier and achievable using simple machines.
