About This Lesson

A free two-page printable activity sheet and a short illustrated guide that explain how computers work to children ages 8 to 12 in plain language.

Students learn the four jobs every computer does (input, processing, output, and storage), the difference between RAM and storage using a simple desk and bookshelf comparison, and what is really happening inside a computer when it runs slowly. They also meet bits, the 0s and 1s behind every letter, picture, and sound.

Activities include sorting computer parts into the four jobs, a desk-or-bookshelf quiz, and matching slow-computer problems to their causes. Answers are included. It works for classroom, homeschool, or home use, with no devices needed.

Read the guide and get the free activity sheet from the link below. By Laith Sad, author of How Computers Work for Kids Ages 8-12.
