This is the introductory lesson in a unit on ratio. Prior to this lesson the class completed a unit on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators and mixed numbers. The lesson introduces a real world application of ratios in changing quantities in a recipe. Aligned to Common Core State Standards: 5.OA.3, 6.RP.1, 6.RP.3

Generate two numerical patterns using two given rules. Identify apparent relationships between corresponding terms. Form ordered pairs consisting of corresponding terms from the two patterns, and graph the ordered pairs on a coordinate plane.
Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities.
Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations.
