About This Lesson

Lesson 1 Greeting for ESL learners

  • Class Time: 60 minutes

  • Objective: Student will be able to greet each other after the class. He will know the different time vocabularies :morning, afternoon, evening and night. Alphabets A to D. 

  • Time:

00:00- 00:15 (15)Teacher Stella introduce herself and the class members.  Greeting sentences.(Note 1)

00:15-00:30 (15)Warm-up activity: YOU+Remember your classmates game. (Note 2)

00:30-00:35 (05) Watch the story video on YouTube and learn the greeting sentences. (Note 3) 

00:30-00:40 (10)Role play. (Note4)

00:40-00:55 (15) A-D alphabets (Note 5)

00:55-0100 (05)Review the greeting sentences (Note 6)

  • Note 1 : Distribute a name badge to each student and allow everyone to introduce himself to the class.

             Introduce the greeting sentence structure:

             Hi, my name is ______.

             Nice to meet you. 

             Nice to meet you, too. 

  •  Note 2 

  1.    YOU game: ask one student to come out in the circle and tell his name to everyone, "Hi, my name is ____. Nice to meet you while others will reply " Nice to meet you, too." After that,  he will point anyone in the class say :YOU". The student pointed will come out in the circle and did the same as above until each one takes the turn. 

  2. Remember your classmate game: Form a circle and clap with a tempo, the first person starts by telling his name: Hi, my name is ____. Nice to meet you. Then, the next person will be starting: Hi, ______. (the last person's name) my name is _______. Nice to meet you, too. The third person will be starting : Hi, ______, ________. (the last two persons' names) my name is _______. Nice to meet you, too.Continue the game until the first person who will repeat all the class' names. 

  • Note 3  Play the video on YouTube and teach the sentences and vocabularies: morning, afternoon, evening, night. 

         Good morning.

         Good morning , everyone.

         How are you?

        Fine, thanks. How are you?

        Great .

       Come in, please.

       Nice to meet you.

       My name is Kate.

       Nice to  meet you, too.

  • Note 4 Role play.  Stella plays the role as a teacher and the students play the role as students in the video. After that, distribute the  flash cards to three students to read the sentences for the class while playing the video. 

  • Note 5 Alphabets A to D. 

  • Note 6 Review the sentences taught today.
