About This Lesson
This is a short, sweet, and easy activity I created to start off Taxonomy and to teach the purpose of a Dichotomous Key. You can use this worksheet as a template and personalize it. I brought in a stack of my books. The students surrounded me, and we began to divide my books using the rules of a dichotomous key. Example: first split fiction and nonfiction. Then hardcover and paperback, etc. Afterwards, I gave them this handout. I think it's better to start with something easy and non-biological to teach the process. You can build upon it with animals and plants afterwards.
