About This Lesson
Keeping children in constant contact (both with their parents and their friends and social media), providing information on the go, and being a mini entertainment system all in one, all mean that most kids are dying to get their own smartphone. But giving your child a device isn't without its risks, thus, it is important to learn about smartphone safety.
What Are the Dangers?
No one likes to think that their child would get up to no good. The truth is though that mobiles combined with peer pressure and lack of education as to good mobile practices mean that kids can and do make mistakes with their smartphone. As a parent, it's important that you understand the risk factors associated with child mobile use. These include:
- Cyberbullying
- Sexting
- Accessing inappropriate material
- Phone overuse (or inappropriate use, such as when in school or during homework time)
- Sharing personal information
- Making in-app purchases
As the responsible party, it's up to you, the parent, to ensure that your child is as protected as possible from all the above. Fortunately, there are ways that you can safeguard your children, and monitor their mobile use. Here are some tips on how to do just that in this infographic.
