About This Lesson
This video looks at the devastating and surprise Arno River flood (Florence, Italy 1966) and the hours immediately after. River waves rose as high as 22 feet, crashed into buildings, and filled the city with 600 TONS of debris-filled mud. Youth living in Florence waited until the flood subsided, then bravely (and without protective gear) made their way into the danger to help residents search for and rescue Italian heritage artifacts. They triggered a movement, inspiring others around the world to join them in Florence.
