About This Lesson

This lesson introduces fractions as equal parts of a whole. Students learn the meaning of numerator and denominator, represent fractions with visual models such as pizzas and fraction circles, locate fractions on a number line, and see how equivalent fractions name the same amount. The lesson plan includes objectives, prerequisite skills, key vocabulary with definition cards and short definition videos, three warm-up activities (a pizza-slicing activity, a number line hop, and a fraction hunt), a teaching sequence with slide shows, five worked examples, a review, a 10-question multiple-choice quiz with shaded-shape graphics, and an answer key. Aligned to CCSS 3.NF.A.1 and 3.G.A.2. Free from Media4Math; no login required.
