About This Lesson

Tagonggo - Kulintang music is an ancient art form from the Southern Philippines. The musical piece, Tagonggo, represents a style which it is thought to trace back to the 3rd century A.D. The video shows the unique instruments and the way each is played. This powerful musical tradition is passed down from generation to generation through an oral tradition. Lessons guide students to understand and play a steady beat, families of instruments, and how the oral traditions of teaching and learning work. The unit focuses on Enduring Values and the honoring of ancient traditions.
