Students watch a short film, "Minka," by Davina Pardo, about two friends who restore an ancient Japanese farmhouse in the 1970's using traditional building methods. In this lesson, students explore the impacts of traditional building and architectural restoration on individuals' cultural identity, connection to the land, and sense of home. Students also discuss the power of film in storytelling. Reflective writing prompts are also included for students to demonstrate their understanding of the story.
