About This Lesson

In this lesson students make connections between the weather and seasonal food. After discussing seasons, weather, and plant growth, students study a seasonal food chart and then create their own. They also search for signs of life in the winter garden, make observational drawings, and predict how the garden will change in other seasons.

Standards

With prompting and support, describe the relationship between illustrations and the text in which they appear (e.g., what person, place, thing, or idea in the text an illustration depicts).
Use and share quantitative observations of local weather conditions to describe patterns over time.
Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic.
