About This Lesson

A step-by-step sheep heart dissection that students follow on a free 3D model of the heart: orienting the heart, the atria and coronary vessels, the great vessels, opening the right side (tricuspid valve, papillary muscles), the pulmonary valve, the left side (mitral valve, the thicker left ventricle) and the aortic valve. Each step lights its structures on the 3D heart, and the guide explains how a sheep heart differs from a human heart. Use it as a pre-lab, a make-up lab, or an alternative assignment for a student who chooses not to dissect; it ends with a short quiz. The attached PDF is a printable student handout of the steps, with space to record what they find. Online guide: https://humanome.co/virtual-dissection/sheep-heart?utm_source=sharemyle… Shared by Humanome, which makes the 3D atlas the activity uses.
