The 1619 Project Giveaway Open Jan 30, 2020 - February 26, 2020
As we head into February and Black History Month, AFT’s Share My Lesson is partnering with the Pulitzer Center to give away classroom sets of the New York Times Magazine’s “The 1619 Project.”
2019 marked the 400th anniversary of the arrival of enslaved people to America. Last fall, the New York Times Magazine published an entire issue on the topic with a goal to “reframe the way we think about the slavery of black people in the U.S., not just as a correction to our national historical narrative, but as a way of better understanding our present,” said Mark Schulte, education director for the Pulitzer Center. Read more from Schulte on this important project.
Throughout February, we will be distributing nearly 2,000 magazines at no cost to teachers, with drawings scheduled on Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26. We will award 15 winners a class set of magazines each week. View the official rules.
