Nasro is a 17-year-old girl who has fled from civil war and famine in Somalia to a refugee camp in Kenya, where she copes, along with tens of thousands of other displaced persons, with scarcity and hardship. Inspired by her dreams of the mother who died giving birth to her, Nasro attends school and becomes an excellent student.

This lesson is part of a collection of topics on Share My Lesson from Girl Rising that work in conjunction. It includes the short film Brave Girl Rising, a teacher and film viewing guide and background on refugee issues.
