Some of our highest-rated, most valuable content on Share My Lesson comes directly from AFT members. Through our AFT Innovation Fund or working with our AFT professional development trainers to create project-based learning lessons, or our AFT Science Cadre, we’ve brought together AFT members to develop content to benefit educators nationwide.

About the AFT Project-Based Resources

In spring of 2020, our AFT professional development trainers saw a need to support student learning in the new virtual environment and they came together to create well-designed, project-based lessons that can be used at the start of the school year, during the school year, or as an end-of-the year culminating instruction. Utilizing universal design for learning, grade-level standards, differentiation strategies, and performance-based assessments, these lessons for grades K-12 integrate the best practices for teaching diverse populations of students whether in-person, hybrid, or virtually.

About the AFT Innovation Fund

Since 2009, the American Federation of Teachers Innovation Fund, a project within the AFT Education Foundation, has made more than 50 investments across the country to local union affiliates, with the purpose of identifying, nurturing and promoting union-led innovations in public education. The fund’s work aligns with the AFT’s four pillars of powerful and purposeful public education: promoting children’s well-being, supporting powerful learning, building teacher capacity and fostering cultures of collaboration.

About the AFT Science Cadre

The AFT Science Cadre began its voyage in 2011 with the mission of bringing teacher voice to the development of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The crew selected to carryout this mission came highly recommended by their local and/or state federation president for their leadership and expertise in teaching science across all grade levels and disciplines.

Once this mission was accomplished, the cadre was charged with elevating the importance of science education for ALL students and creating professional learning opportunities and resources for teachers. They have presented at the AFT’s bi-annual TEACH Conference, designed science-related brochures and model lessons exemplifying 3-dimensional learning outlined in the National Research Council’s Framework for K-12 Science Education: Practices, Crosscutting Concepts and Core Ideas.
